It could be that he doesn't own any land, but is an "inhyses".
inhyses = a person living gratis (costless, free) at another persons house, lodger.

Following up, our records show he is a Huusman. Is it possible he was not an owner of the land but the owner gave him a place to live. Also, we see him in a number of towns either with a new child or as a godparent, could he be like a farm manager for a number of properties the owner has. In the records there are numerous farm hands at these places. In one Jordebocker record several towns are lumped together with a note saying one town is the primary location. Interesting.

He could have a house on another mans land!
He could be a soldier having a house on the "rotebonde's" land
OR as you say having a certain position on another person's farm, that gave him the opportunity to have a house (instead of just being an "inhyses").
