    Yes, Jon and Joen can refer to the same person. See this article on Sweden Personal Names in the Family Search Wiki, especially the section"Interchangeable First Names".

    Thank you for your comment . I understand Joen and Jon are used intermixed. I am wondering if you could look at these names from Rölanda Mantalslängder-Ramsberg 1699-1724. And a few notes next to the names. Just see if you think the names are the same person (Joen/Jon Tolfsson) and the other name Bengt/Bryngel. No need for you to pull up each record as I can provide the pictures of the name examples and the couple of notes. If yes, let me know how I can best send them to you. I'm very interested in if we have the same person on this farm for 20 years and if Joen/Jon and Begnt/Bryngel are related.

    Ok, my apologies. I didn't realize the two pictures of Joen/Jon Tolffson went through, so I didn't know you saw them. But it's clear these are the same people, right. Let me send you the other name and the notes that are along side these names. If you can look. Here is the first note.

    Could this be the same name Bryngel/Bengt from the above name. This name appears multiple times and seems to change slightly.

    And one last time. This is everything. I have everything else fully understood so I'm just solving this puzzle of Joen Tolfsson and the B-name

    Thanks

    @Steven1947

    Hello Steven, it would be very helpful if you not just post the tiny clips but also links to the documents which give a better resolution and help to see the context.

    Hello @Steven1947

    Bryngel(l) is an existing but very rare first name in Sweden. It is related to Brynolf (brynja = armor, breastplate). To my knowledge it is not interchangeable with Bengt which is a rather frequent name and has a different origin (from Latin Benedictus). So I would assume that these are different people.

    I read the name in the 1724 record rather as Jon Tolleson than Tolfsson and the comment as fattig = poor. The note after Bryngell is not fully clear to me, it seems to start with i Lundby ___?

    Similarly in the 1727 record I read the name as Joen Tolleson.

    The name in the 1711 record is clearly Bengt. There is another Bengt in the top row and a Bryngel in the center of the opposite page.

    The name in the 1722 record is Bryngell.

    Thank you for your help. You are a real pleasure to learn from. I'll use your comments to do further research. It totally surprised me we have a Bryngel in Ramberg as several of my relatives are named Bryngel in Rölanda. This will be fun. It's interesting as I'm not finding any Tolleson's in Rölanda- Ramberg during this period and I have actual evidence of Joen Tolfsson living in Ramberg with wife and children. We know Tolfsson is correct and the name Tolf is all over my family ancestors. I'll have to think about whether the Mantalslängder recorder made mistakes in listing the name.
