I'm looking at engagement records from 1771 in Land, Oppland, Norway. The 5th record on the left side , page 248, shows:

13 July, ? Peder Olsen Oystad ... 10 Oct

og ? Anne Nielsd, S. Halmrast

Both have a word in front of their names that I don't see on other records on the page. Any cluse as to what those words might be?

Also, I assume 13 July is the engagement date. Would 10 Oct be the marriage date?

Many thanks!!

The word preceding Peder's name is "Enkem(and) = Widower".

The word preceding Anne's name is "Enke = Widow".

If you go back to image 2 (page 216-217) there are headings at the top of the column-so, yes, 13 July is the engagement date and 10 October is the marriage date.
