Who are the parents?
I've been searching for quite some time now for the correct parents of my Great-Great Grandmother. I have even found what I believe are her birth records which are attached as sources.. However, they don't state parents. There are others on the same hospital birth records in the same predicament. There is so little evidence of her parents i'm starting to wonder if she was maybe an orphan? if someone wants to roll up their selves with me i'm chest deep in this one without a lead-
Jacobine Marie Henriksdatter or (Henriksen)
25 January 1835 – 15 April 1910

I tried looking but for some reason, I couldn’t find anyone with that identification number. So sorry

If you search by ID number, you will find it.

You’re right of course. For some reason I copied the number into the search with a space at the beginning. Thanks.

The bottom half of this page may have the information that you are looking for. This is referring to Jacobine Marie in the source listed on Family Search. I don't know enough Danish to be able to translate this, but at least the mother's name and age are given. The father may be mentioned here-I am not sure. Perhaps if someone who can read more Danish than I can sees this, they will be able to help. I don't, however, see any "Henrik" mentioned. The record may not be for your ancestor, but it is for the Jacobine Marie that is in the sources on Family Search.

Thank you so much for your help! I did the best i could to translate. Looks like the the mother Ane Marie Hansdatter may have been from Guderup? I believe Guderup to be in Sonderborg. I am no expert on Danish translating by any means- I cross referenced all the places Jacobine has lived with the mothers name through Danishfamilysearch and no hits came up. Obviously missing something here

I think that Guderup may be Gøderup in Glim parish, Roskilde (Copenhagen) County. The last part of this record appears to read "1835 the 15 August with Peder (not sure of the last name here) in Giøderup, old Glim parish". The date, 15 August 1835 is about 6 months after this birth, and it has obviously been added at a later date, but it may indicate Ane Marie's residence for the 1835 census. I think the other names and places are residences for Ane Marie, as well. I believe she was working as a maid for laborer Niels Bendsen at Store Søndervoldstrade 207 and later for laborer Jørgen Pedersen at Dronningensgade. The 2 words before "Dronningensgade" may be important. The second word may be "barnets" which is possibly "the child's". I will be at the Family History Library in SLC on Tuesday and will check with some of the staff there to see if I can find out what this record says for sure.

1849 confirmation record in Glim, for Jacobine Marie names her as foster daughter of Henrik Pedersen. I believe this is where she get the surname of Henricksen. https://www.danishfamilysearch.dk/sogn1359/churchbook/source140342/opslag15483948?fbclid=IwAR37ALPXZI1FhYl_Lgon9hMsG5NBE84S86ICmpj3Q2lsfkHqjBPsJjpGVFI

@Norm Baker Thank you so much, of course I was thinking that about you and your fine work. We are all on the same team right? One slight glitch, haven't found the christening for Ane Marie Hansdatter in Glim but I need to review again when my time permits. We are working hard at our Family History Center with some updating of equipment and facility so it's a daily adventure. Sure miss all our friends at the FHL.

I almost missed an important clue on the confirmation record for Jacobine Marie Henricksdatter. Henrik is listed as giving foster care, but the couple are listed as unmarried.

My impression here is that they never were a couple. I believe that Ane Marie Hansdatter gave her daughter up for adoption, and, possibly, never saw her again. Henrik Petersen is married in the 1845 census for Glim to Dorte Nilsdatter. See here: https://www.danishfamilysearch.com/cid5591691 . I can't find any sign of Ane Marie anywhere after the birth of Jacobine Marie. I am going to ask Tanner at the Library tomorrow to confirm this, but I am pretty sure of it. I will let you know when I find out.

Wow!!! You two are amazing! Thank you so much for your help! I had a feeling something was off with her parents. I guess the question is now when i attach the family to her who would i put? The mother? Henrik the foster parent? I'm assuming the biological parent on this one. If you guys think I'm off let me know? I would also need to dig deeper on finding sources for each "parent" as it is anyways but this is a great start here!

I agree with Norman Baker about Ane Marie. I wouldn't assume that Henrik is the biological father. This is an unusually difficult line to study and I've not been as successful as I had hoped. You could try finding the christening of Ane Marie in the parishes that surround Glim. I did not find it in Glim.

This entry is from a parish named Den Kongelige Fødsels- og Plejestiftelse. Many illegitimate children are listed here and often the name of the father is not listed. Entry no. 64 is a female child by the name Jacobine Marie born 25 January 1835 in area no. 82 and christened the 27th same month (27 January)
the name of the mother is Ane Marie Hansdatter, unmarried, the mother is age 23 and born in Guderup by Roeskilde. She was employed in the rural are until 1832, and later in København (Copenhagen)
The mother's skudsmaal (conduct). She worked in Christianehavn, Store Sønder Voldstræde No. 207, listed as working for/resides with worker Niels Bendsen. ... this child is (residing) in Dronningendgate No. 214 in Sturer? with tenant farmer Peder ... (household) from 15 August 1835. in Giøderup old Glim parish.

Just for an update- i followed up with what Norman Baker found and pulled the census records from 1845 and found Henrik Pedersen and Dorthe Nielsdatter as foster parents to Jacobine Marie and another young man names Hans Christiansen. After looking all this information over very well i believe this to be the correct record here. However, from an ordinance standpoint (and record keeping) do i add them as the parents here? And keep searching for Ane Marie Hansdatters information? I just want to make sure i end up doing Henrik and Dorthe justice for raising Jacobine-

***I forgot to add in the last comment that in the 1834 census i did find a Hans Jacbosen/ Ane Kristine Pedersdatter in Borup. Appox 15 mins south of Goderup. Nothing but speculation here but its possible this could be grandparents of Jacobine- literally basing this off nothing but Ane Maries fathers last name of Jacobsen.

My Danish friends tell me that Ane Marie had a child prior to Jacobine. This is based on information (I can't read) on the record you posted earlier.

This one is getting interesting- if only my dad and uncles who could read and write Danish and English were still alive! Based off assumptions here i would assume she gave the first one up for adoption too. i could dig through the records and find a shred of evidence but it wouldn't be the most solid since i don't have the other child's info and i would have to find the "correct" entry for Ane Marie Hansdatter. How do your friends know she had another?

Yesterday, I asked 2 different staff members at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City for help in reading the above record and they both told me that the mother, Ane Marie, went to live with Niels Bendsen at Store Søndervoldstræde No. 207 in Christianshavn and that Jacobine Marie went to live with Jørgen Pedersen at 214 Dronningensgade. Perhaps that didn't work out for Jacobine Marie, because she definitely ends up with Peder Hansen in Giøderup, Old Glim parish and then, later, with HenrikPedersen. Tanner, the Danish expert at the Library, suggested looking for Niels Bendsen in the 1834 Copenhagen census to see if there is any sign of Ane Marie with him there. I think that if we find him and her together, then there is an excellent chance that he is the father.
Concerning whether Ane Marie had another child before Jacobine Marie, one of the Library staff members said something about that, but the other one didn't mention it. That will take a little more research.
As far as who to put Jacobine Marie with, I would probably put her with her mother and an unknown (for now) father as biological parents and with Henrik Pedersen and Dorthe Nielsdatter as foster parents.
