There's an Ellen Nielsen listed in the New Jersey Death Index on Ancestry who dies in April 1951 in Hoboken, Hudson, New Jersey (linked); her state file number is 15626. It looks like this is her; in the archives.com collection "U.S., Social Security Applications and Claims Index, 1936-2007," she is listed as being born on 21 March 1884 in Denmark (exact date we have on FamilySearch family tree) and as having died on 2 April 1951 (linked, but it's only an index):
- Name Ellen Nielsen
- Birth Date 21 Mar 1884
- Birth Place Denmark
- Death Date 2 Apr 1951
- Claim Date 24 Apr 1951
- SSN 147224912
- Notes 24 Apr 1951: Name listed as ELLEN NIELSEN
- Collection U.S., Social Security Applications and Claims Index, 1936-2007
The same index is available on Ancestry (linked), where it also lists her SSN: 147224912.
It looks like you can get a copy of the death certificate on vitalrecords.egov.com (linked); a first copy costs $25 plus a $5 processing fee. The website states the following:
Death Certificates are available for events that occurred in State of New Jersey for the most current 100 years. A certified copy can typically be used to obtain death benefits, claim insurance proceeds, notify social security and other legal purposes.
If relationship can not be verified, then a non-certified document will be sent. The document will contain the person’s name, parents name, date of death, and place of death only. Social security numbers and cause of death will be redacted. This document cannot be used for legal purposes.
Important Notes:
- NJ law does not allow the release of a death certificate to a beneficiary.
- Genealogy requests must be submitted in writing.

You might also be able to order a copy of Frederik's death certificate; the one I found previously is listed as Frederick Nielson, with a death date of Feb 1920 in Hoboken City, New Jersey. He can easily be the same person you located in the 1920 census, because the census was taken on 13 January (by the way, he is listed as an alien in the 1920 census, so there aren't any naturalization papers, etc.).

@Charlotte Noelle Champenois You actually found her! That's amazing - I've been searching high and low for her (refusing to pay both MyHeritage and ancestry for info...) Thank you so much. I'll consider ordering the death certificate and her and her father.

I agree @Charlotte Noelle Champenois ! It was a lot of fun! Also when the OP continues to be involved in the search like @Helle Schnefeld has been, it makes volunteering feel so much more gratifying because you know the person is serious about thier search😊 which, for me, is very encouraging and motivates me to go above and beyond when I can. Excellent collaboration! As my son says “team work makes the dream work” 🤣 please keep us informed @Helle Schnefeld and if there’s anything else you need assistance with please let us know!

@Charlotte Noelle Champenois and @X24mom X24mom I'm glad that my obsession with this side of the family fuelled your commitment and made it fun for you too. I just glaced into the forms for obtaining the death certificate. They require a rather big amount of data to prove identification and relations. I'll have to do some more reading to make sure I have all the data before sending the request.
My English might be alright, but it's something else to read forms and regulations.
I'll get back to you when I know some more.
Thanks again.

HelleSchnefeld,
Your English is not a problem, it is quite good! I think that you will do just fine with the forms!
Charlotteoellechampenois1 and x24mom are wonderful at helping. I love seeing so many people volunteering to answer questions in the Community. Working together makes this Community work. Everyone is invited to participate and I am grateful for all that do!

So true! Sometimes it seems like those places word things just so you get confused or annoyed trying to figure it out and just give up 🤣 ! Rules and regulations... sometimes I feel like I need to hire an Attny just to make sense of some of the stuff (thank goodness we have @Rene Greer Williams as an active member of the communities here 😊)
