Do you have any clues as to what county in Ohio? You need a starting point to begin your search for court documents.

Montgomery. Was told to go to that county's probate court. Want to know who my Grandfather's Dad is and if his step-dad adopted him since my grandfather was 15 years old when his Mom married again. He took his adopted Father's last name.

@Sharon Sullivan Chaney Is your query in regards to "Alma Almeda Chaney" from the original post for this thread? If not, then are you wanting help searching in probate records in Montgomery county for a different person?

This is not about Alma Chaney. I do want help how to search probate records in Montgomery County, Ohio. I am trying to find out who my Grandfather's family really is. I know his Mother, but it appears Grandpa could have been born out of wedlock. GREAT Grandma remarried when my Grandfather was 15 years old. She wasn't married when he was born in 1881.

@Sharon Sullivan Chaney Birth records from the probate court in Montgomery County for 1881 are found in FamilySearch unindexed records. You can access them in several ways. From the FamilySearch catalog, search for Film # 004017449. You could also go to this database: Ohio County Births 1841-2003. Click on "Browse" and then "Montgomery". If your grandfather was born out of wedlock, his mother may or may not have named the father on the birth record. If not, you'll need to try other sources.
If you have any problems or more questions, don't hesitate to ask.
Good luck and let us know if you find any answers!

DNA analysis may also help you to identify his family.

Absolutely, DNA is another avenue to try.

I am with 23 and Me. I have kit for Ancestry to take next. I have been watching my DNA relatives to see if a connection comes in not I my known relatives.
Is there a way to process info quickly? I have over 3000 connections but most are on other side of my family.

I recommend using the Leeds Method to sort your DNA matches. You likely will get more DNA matches with AncestryDNA than with 23 and Me. You can also move your raw DNA data from either 23 and Me or AncestryDNA to MyHeritage and other sites.
