Where to go from here?
Hello! I am new to the group, and I am feeling a bit stuck in my research. I have traced one line of my ancestors to two villages in what used to be Ung Varmegye in Hungary, but which are now locate in Ukraine. The villages are Minaj (now Mynai) and Kisgejocz (now Mali Hevtsi).
I have located these villages in the metrical book inventory for the Ukrainian archives, but I spent several hours searching the FS catalog and was unfortunately not able to find the records there. My assumption is that the records I am trying to find are not in the FS catalog.
My question is, does anyone in the group have any tips/tricks for finding records like this in the FS catalog, or any suggestions for alternative sources? If the records do not exist anywhere in digital form, does anyone have suggestions for what my next steps should be to find this information?

Hi @JeremyJacko!
The Catalog has not been updated for over a year (it's a long complicated story, but we are in the process of switching over to a new system to manage the catalog). In the meantime, there has been lots of new content captured in Ukraine. All of these images are not going into the FamilySearch Catalog, but instead are being put into FamilySearch Images. (Can be found on the main page of FamilySearch by clicking on Search, then Images). Images is still new and they are working out some kinks, but it is a similar search to the Catalog. You'll search by location, and will want to search using different historical jurisdictions, as different results will appear for different historical time periods.
Which archive did you look at for the metrical book inventories? I can let you know if we have recently been digitizing in that archive.

Good morning @Ellie Vance,
Thank you for taking the time to respond. I used the Ukranian archive metrical book inventory here: https://undiasd.archives.gov.ua/doc/metric-books/mbv1.pdf. The villages I am interested in both appear in the "State Archives of the Transcarpathian Region" section. It isn't clear to me whether the records are held today in Uzhorod or in Beregovo.
I will spend some time with FamilySearch Images. Thanks for the tip!

Okay, so it looks like they are in DAZO. FamilySearch microfilmed a handful of records from that archive in the early 2000s, but did not microfilm all they have there in the archive.
We are starting image capture in Ukraine again, but the State Archive of the Transcarpathian Region is not one that we are actively in right now. If I hear of any new developments with that archive, I'll be sure to let you know!

You might also check this website periodically: https://uk.wikisource.org/wiki/%D0%90%D1%80%D1%85%D1%96%D0%B2%D0%B8 It originally started by digitizing Jewish records in Ukraine, but it has grown to include all records from various areas. This is the page specific for the archive you need. https://uk.wikisource.org/wiki/%D0%90%D1%80%D1%85%D1%96%D0%B2:%D0%94%D0%90%D0%97%D0%BA%D0%9E. It looks like at the moment, there are not any digitized records from this archive on the site, but there may be in the future.

Thank you so much for looking into it. I did spend some time with FS images over the weekend, and I was afraid that was going to be the answer. Thank you for the links. And yes, if you hear of anything new I would love to hear about it!
