help finding parents
Can someone help me find the parents for Johannes Johansson. Apparently hey was born in 1823 in Törnevalla Östergötland. He was married to Anna Sofia Öiyér who was born on 1824 in Askeby Östergötland. Thank you for any help.

Törnevalla husförhör (https://sok.riksarkivet.se/bildvisning/C0018744_00291) gives the birthday of Johannes Johansson as 2 May 1823 in Törnevalla. However, the Törnevalla birth records for 1823 do not have a birth recorded on that date, but there is a Johannes born 2 September 1823: https://sok.riksarkivet.se/bildvisning/C0018752_00021
Translation of the entry:
Johannes from Stratomta estates, born 2nd, baptized 4th. Father: cottager Johannes Claesson in Hagtorpet(?); Mother: hans wife Maja Nilsdotter (33 years)
Not clear to me if this is the right Johannes Johansson though.

These are the four records that I have found, but I don't know if it is a mistake on Johannes birthday. Is there any other place I should look?

I don't know if this helps but Nilsson, Sven Wilhelm is listed as a 2nd family, b. 1822 in Törnevalla Östergötland county, Dräng

Hello Scott,
the main problem is that the birth for the Johannes Johansson who married Anna Sofia Oijer is given as 2 May 1823 in Törnevalla in the household examination books (husförhörslängder) for the years 1876-1894, however there is no birth record for that date in the Törnevalla birth register (https://sok.riksarkivet.se/bildvisning/C0018752_00020#?c=&m=&s=&cv=19&xywh=-662%2C-257%2C7129%2C5102).
In 1823, 18 boys were born in Törnevalla parish of which 5 had the first name Johannes:
25 June: father: Magnus Månsson
15 July: father: Johannes Blixt
2 September: father: Johannes Claesson
1 December: father: Jonas Abrahamsson
23 December: father: Hans Laudon
The boys born on 15 July and 2 September would have the full name Johannes Johansson.
I found the Johannes born on 2 September 1823 together with his parents Johannes Claesson and Maja Nilsdotter in the household examination books of Stratomta for the following years:
1822-1828: https://sok.riksarkivet.se/bildvisning/C0018728_00124
1828-1832: https://sok.riksarkivet.se/bildvisning/C0018729_00131
1832-1837: https://sok.riksarkivet.se/bildvisning/C0018731_00039
1838-1842: https://sok.riksarkivet.se/bildvisning/C0018733_00044
In the last volume it is annotated that he left 1839 for Askeby and returned 1842 from Skavestad (two nearby villages), probably working as a farmhand (dräng).
He is again noted in the household of his parents in the houshold examination book for the years
1842-1848: https://sok.riksarkivet.se/bildvisning/C0018735_00057
from where he left 1843 to Östra Harg, again as a farmhand.
Now in the next volume
1849-1860: https://sok.riksarkivet.se/bildvisning/C0018737_00068
a strange thing happens. Johannes Johansson born on 2 May 1823 is entered as moving into the place of Johannes Claesson and Maja Nilsdotter in the year 1857 (see below). He is entered as "dagl.[önare]" = daylaborer, not as a son. So this seems to be a different Johannes Johansson. And this is the man who marries Anna Sofia Oijer in November 1857. The yellow marked annotation is: "received clearance certificate [to marry] to Askeby 12 October 1857".
Here is the marriage record from Askeby parish (the home parish of Anna Sofia) of 8 November 1857: https://sok.riksarkivet.se/bildvisning/C0014679_00037#?c=&m=&s=&cv=36&xywh=245%2C1214%2C2774%2C2078
Still, it is unclear to me why no birth record for Johannes Johansson can found for 2 May 1823 in Törnevalla.

I tried to follow Johannes Johansson (b. 2 May 1823) backwards in time starting from the record in the household examination for Stratomta shown above. There it is noted that he came 1856 from page 129 in the same book. On that page he is noted as arriving from Askeby in 1855:
Askeby is a different parish, so there should by a moving certificate, and indeed there is one:
which shows Johannes Johansson moving from Stämna i Askeby parish to Törnevalla parish in 1855. No birth dates are given in the moving registry, but this is the only Johannes Johansson mentioned for that year.
Now looking in the Askeby household examination book 1848-1857 for Johannes Johansson in Stämna his entry is found on page 99:
However, note that his birth is given here as 2/9 (September!) 1823 in Törnevalla. In the rightmost columns it is indicated that he moved to Törnevalla parish in 1855.
Johannes Johansson is found an different pages (p.31, p.25, p.99) in this same volume as he moves from farm to farm as a dräng, always with the birthdate 2 September 1823.
So my impression is that the two Johannes Johanssons with birthdates 2 May and 2 September 1823 in Törnevalla are actually the same person. 2 September 1823 is the original birthdate, also found in the birth record. With the move from Askeby parish back to Törnevalla parish in 1855 apparently an error happened in the bookkeeping (for what reason ever) and further on the birthdate was taken as 2 May 1823. It sounds strange but would explain why there is no birth record to be found for 2 May 1823.
Any comments you may have on this are very much welcome.
