I cannot suggest improvements to Places Database
I have tried several times now to add Alternate Names or Reference Links to existing places and the popup screen requires a valid URL. However it does not recognize anything as a valid URL, neither www.familysearch.org nor www.microsoft.com nor the URL I have already submitted for Suggest A New Place. That last popup takes the URL www.digitalhorizonsonline.org/digital/collection/p16921coll2/id/4024 (Standard Atlas of Rolette County, North Dakota) with no problem but trying to add to an existing place? No go.

Where are you adding the Alternate name?

The down arrow on the right opens the Alternate name field and after you click (+ ADD ALTERNATE NAME) the box appears.
You must be signed into Family Search to make changes

The issue may have gone away. I have since added some Alternate Name suggestions with no problem dropping in a URL.

It appears the valid URL notice wants http:// at the beginning.
