MISSING FATHER'S SURNAME
I am trying to solve the mystery of my ancestor Anne Roe's parentage. I know through multiple DNA cousins which branch of the Roe family tree she belongs, but the exact parents are unknown. I located a baptism in the area and time period, but it appears the father, Patt's surname is possibly unknown because it is blank. Or possibly it can be assumed that the father's surname is the same as the mother, Elizabeth Rowe's maiden name? I suspect she was illegitimate, but I am looking for any clues.
I compared it to other baptisms, but I am not clear what this might mean.
Thanks for helping.
(The baptism is on the left page, second from the top, next to 22 (November).

Now thats interesting - I had the same sort of thing with a line - two sisters were christened into the Presbyterian church as adults - fathers names were there but the mothers was no first name just a surname. And so that s all we know about her- we don't know when she died. Looking at yours I would love to see the original document - I could be persuaded something was "removed" or "erased" but unless we could see the original its only a hunch and it could easily be wrong - are there any further births to the mother to make a comparison or is this the only child known?
The minister seems to record both father & mothers surname in all other cases.
Is there a marriage record for her/him?
