Does this mean eviction possibly?
As I studied this court record of my ancestor Thomas Mahon, the defendant on #23, I wondered if this was an eviction notice or is that impossible to interpret from the information provided? It says the complaint was "holding forcible possession" and the adjudication was "promised to give up possession". Anyone have more insight into this?
Thanks!

I think your conclusion is most likely. Alternatively, he may have been illegally occupying or trespassing on land. There was a lot of rural unrest and political debate on land ownership and rent in post-famine Ireland, due to the low rates of home/farm ownership and high rents.

https://hansard.parliament.uk/commons/1882-06-13/debates/3482dac0-7295-4774-9477-6be8855218a0/OffencesAgainstThisAct It had frequently occurred of late that a tenant, on whom a notice of ejectment had been executed, and whose equity of redemption had long expired, had resumed possession of the holding and made use of it in defiance of the law; and the proposal now was that such an offender, instead of being charged at Quarter Sessions for taking and holding forcible possession, should be summarily tried for what might be called a trespass in contempt of the law.
Seems to be like a refusal to leave a property after being evicted as was mentioned.

Thank you. It's interesting that three people had the same charges and same conclusion. I appreciate your help.

Thank you all for your comments and thanks, David, for the link explaining what was likely the situation. After this court case this ancestor seems to have disappeared and likely went to America so it all makes sense.
