I am wondering about Pending Members of a ward or stake group.
I am a stake indexing director. Occasionally I have a Pending Member--someone I have not met and is not a member of the stake.
Should I accept this person? Usually I try to contact them by email but rarely get a response. I have accepted a couple of these people; some of them do indexing and some do not.

My counsell is not to add them to your list until you have called them and chatted personally. Many nonmembers are fantastic indexers and having their numbers on our reports is a bonus.

There are people who succeed in joining hundreds of indexing groups. (just for kicks?). Don't accept any pending member unless you contact them first and learn they are living in the boundaries of your stake.

Opps! I had a pending request last week and automatically assumed he was a member of our stake and accepted him. Is there a reason why they are able to join a stake/ward other than their own?

Anyone can request to join any group. He joined yours because you accepted him. Members of your stake do not need to request to join. They are automatically added to their ward and stake the first time they navigate to the web indexing page.
