One mystery solved... another takes its place. Why did the court name the child and not his parents?

You're welcome, Martha. I think the fact that Jakob Bauer was a member of the court had nothing to do with him being the baptismal sponsor. My interpretation is that "Gerichtsmann" was Jakob's occupation, and separately as the baptismal sponsor when asked what name this child was to be given Jakob said " Johann Georg". What do you think?
