Books about Northwest Scotland
Hi,
I am looking for a book about Northern Scotland, more specifically about North Uist, and island of the outer Hebrides, as well as Invernessshire.
I would also be happy for any historical information about the early 1800's in that area as well.
I have a 3x great grandfather that was born in North Uist, but have been unable to find any records of him with his parents or siblings there. I will start looking in Invernesshire to see if they may have left the islands and went to the main land?
My 3x great grandfather was born in 1831, and in 1848 he went to Glasgow for schooling in optometry. I'm not sure if his family all left northern Scotland or not.
Any help or direction of where to find more info would be awesome! I'll be watching the classes on Scottish research this weekend, but they don't typically talk about Northern Scotland.
Thank you!
Angela

I do not pretend to much knowledge of Scottish records. Perhaps someone with more knowledge than I will come along to help. Alternatively (or as well as!) you might want to post this to the Scottish group.
I can transfer this post there if you wish.

Hello Angela,
To search for books
· Sign into FamilySearch.
· In the menu bar at the top of the screen, click Search and then Books.
· In the search field, enter search terms, and click Search
· On the search results page, use the left panel to filter the results.
I have given you a link to a FamilySearch article for more information. How do I find a digitized book in the FamilySearch Digital Library?
Also, a link to a research Wiki page https://www.familysearch.org/en/wiki/North_Uist,_Inverness-shire,_Scotland_Genealogy
Hope that this is helpful.

Thank you! I have already visited the wiki page, but was unaware of the book search :)

Thank you for asking your question.
Here are a couple of books I found on the FamilySearch Library Catalog. You can search these and see if there are any that will help you or that are digital.
I would also like to echo Graham Buckell by joining the Scotland Genealogy Research Group and add to the discussions. We have leaders from Scotland there that may be able to add to the information that both myself and LillianW1 offered. I hope this helps and please don't hesitate to ask if we can assist you further.

Thank you! I just joined the Scotland Genealogy Research Group and posted my message there as well. Thank you for showing me the search results for books. I don't live in UT so I'm hoping I can find one online, unless there is a way to get a book transferred from UT to Idaho?

There may be a way to transfer books to a family history library or possibly interlibrary loan. You will have to contact Salt Lake to see if they do that.
I am happy that we were able to assist you.
