Nova Scotia brick wall: Simon Kavanagh 1790-1870
Good morning :)
I'm a researcher of several decades (began before the interwebs, going page by page through microfilm at the MN Historical Society to find family, and page by page through bound books to find terrible misspellings that soundex would never resolve!) In other words, when I say brick wall, I mean, the mortar between the bricks is cemented firmly, and no launching of angry birds will demolish it. ;)
I'm planning a research trip to NS this fall. I have several cemeteries in which I have determined nearly every identified grave on F-A-G as direct family or cousin. I'm hoping one of these cemeteries turns out to have not yet indexed graves that unlocks this mystery. My airbnb turns out to be *next door* to one of these cemeteries.
I've worked through creating a research plan using the American Ancestors style spreadsheet (I'm debating whether to do a monthly membership there to see what else they've got that I havn't found already), pulled everything I can from Ancestry.com, been digging through NS archives, hacked my way into the backdoor index of the Argyle township archives (shhh!), and so on. I'm so stuck! Let's see, what else, got a very lengthy response from BAC-LAC so updated my research plan with their suggestions. Digging into land grants looks daunting. Possibility of him being British military also looks like hard work to find.
Of course, my biggest question is, where did he come from, and how did he get to tiny little Tusket, Nova Scotia.
What would you do next?
