Arvilla Green McGuire Death Notice
Week 6 submission of Newspaper Article:
My Great Grandmother, Eliza Jane McGuire Murphy's mother died when she was a small childin Burlington, Iowa. Her father, Francis McGuire then married his 2nd wife, Arvilla Green. In source records Arvilla Green McGuire is listed as Eliza Jane McGuire Murphy's mother, since she raised her. I knew that Francis McGuire's 3 oldest children had a different birth mother from Arvilla. Even though Eliza's birthdate is before Arvilla married Francis, I had no records showing that Arvilla was Eliza's step-mother.
When I found the death notice in the Washington Standard, the local newspaper in Olympia, Washington that states in print that Arvilla was Eliza's step-mother, I was very grateful! Eliza's husband was John Miller Murphy, the owner and editor of the Washington Standard.

Thanks so much for sharing again Kristen! You always share great examples.
I love the information that can be found in newspapers. So many people think that their ancestors might not have been important enough to make it in the news. I have found that many everyday people make the news and that I have solved many mysteries with newspaper clues.
