Who is selling what to whom?
I have not posted here before; so I am not certain that this is an appropriate question for this group. If it's not, just kindly tell me. Thanks!
Is there anyone who is pretty good at reading and understanding these old land records? The two men in this record are James Jenkins and Seaborn Jones. I read and get lost in the legalese! Who is selling what to whom? THANKS!

That is written so complicated only a lawyer could read it and know for sure, but I believe that James jenkins is the one buying and thus is "indebted" to Seaborn Jones.

Jenkins owes Jones $210,200

I read it that way, too, but for early 1800s, this is an awfully huge amount for the time. There has to be an error here. Thanks for the input!

Yeah it was a lot of $$$ I didn’t read the whole thing but it appeared to be very detailed with a lot of specifics maybe there was more to it than just a simple land mortgage?

You hit the nail on the head! It was detailed and complicated to read. I was kind of hoping there may be someone on this site with a little expertise in reading these kinds of documents. It would be so nice if they could write these things in plain English that everyone could easily understand..... but then there would be less of a need for lawyers

The first part reads, "James Jenkins stands indebted to Seab. Jones in the full quantity of two hundred & ten thousand two hundred feet [not dollars] of good sound merchantable inspected inch plank ?board with interest therein . . . payable in four annual installments . . . Reference to the bond & morg? given by the said James Jenkins unto the said Seaborn Jones . . . James Jenkins stands further ?ther ind[ebt]ed unto the said Seaborn Jones in the sum of six hundred & seve?y dollars with interest."
