Hi,

I've located my great-great-great-grandfather: Mathias Persak in Austria in a village called Roßhaupt. This is a place where he got married in 1817 (link below) and had children but he wasn't born there.

They didn't spell his name correctly at first but in later entries it is all OK. He was a k.k. soldier in the 6th Cordons Compagnie from Roßhaupt, some sort of a military border guard.

My question is, how can I find out his date and place of birth? Are there any military records that can be checked?

Please help, as I am stuck at the moment and cannot continue any further.

Thank you.

Adam P.

Do you have a death record for him? Does it mention his parents?

You could also try checking the places where his surname is found today: it looks like Peršák or Pilšák are both very uncommon surnames. Another variation may be Plzák https://www.kdejsme.cz/seznam/prijmeni/P

This tree on MyHeritage says he was born in 22 February 1789 Sobesice, Bukovnik, Bohemia, there are a lot of Europeans on that site, so it's usually worth checking. You could try contacting her and asking where that came from: https://www.myheritage.com/person-3500040_628301621_628301621/mathias-persak#!events

There is an entry for a Matej Plzak on that date in Bukovnik parish, but whether or not that is the same person would be harder to prove: https://www.portafontium.eu/iipimage/30060737/bukovnik-08_0875-n?x=4&y=242&w=486&h=266
