Help with death record of spouse from Mecklenburg-Schwerin
I recently posted a question about the death record for Christian Jochim Lange. As I was searching for the name of his wife, I found this death record for Margaretha Maria Lange nee Hoff and after reading the entry realized that she died one day before Christian Jochim Lange and was buried on the same day and place and their cause of death was the same. Also the entry for his death record is the next one after hers. I'm very sure that Christian Jochim Lange the spouse in this record for Margaretha is the same person that I have been researching. The record was indexed and I finished most of the translation that was left and would appreciate help with a few questions.
Thank you! Debra
Question: what is the occupation of the father?
Question: in the Known or presumed heirs column, what is the word before "and 1 son"? I think the that word should be "spouse" because Christian Jochim Lange was still living. In the same entry column for Christian, the remark is "a son" and that makes sense.
[Entry] Number 224
Date of death: October 11th [1853]
Date of burial: October 16th [1853]
Name of deceased: The Arbeitsmann Christian Jochim Lange wife Margaretha Maria nee Hoff
Birthplace: Rövershagen

Cause of death: cholera
Name of Father: deceased ? Claus Hoff in Rövershagen
Name of Mother: deceased Anna Ilsabe nee Hoff
Known or presumed heirs: ? and 1 son

Hello Debra,
Excellent translation!
Your questions:
Question: what is the occupation of the father?
Answer: I read that word as "Katenmann" = cottager. Ernst Thode, German-English Genealogical Dictionary (page 131), defines "Katenmann" as: cottager, with small house, garden, a little land for cattle or animals.
Question: in the Known or presumed heirs column, what is the word before "and 1 son"? I think the that word should be "spouse" because Christian Jochim Lange was still living. In the same entry column for Christian, the remark is "a son" and that makes sense.
Answer: The word is "Wittwer" = widower, which refers to Margaretha's still living husband, Christian. So the phrase is: Wittwer und 1 Sohn = widower and 1 son.

Thank you for answering my questions and the reference to Thode. I use that dictionary that you recommended and it is excellent for definitions and script variations etc.!

You're always very welcome, @Debra Palmer01. I use my copy of Thode multiple times a day and it is literally falling apart.
