Is Casten Schwartz the mayor or the mayor’s servant?
This town, Wangeritz, has a lot of Schwartzes and the only way to sort them to the right families is by additional information on the records. This is a baptism record 1703 Jan. 31where Michael Schwartz’s wife has a son named Peter.
My question is about the witnesses. It says Carsten Schwartz des schultzends knecht und sein sohn Christian Schwartz, und Ursula Maass. The mayor of the town during this time should be a Gregor Schwartz, and he has a son named Christian. Is the Christian referred to the son of the mayor and Carsten Schwartz is the mayor’s servant?
Carsten and Ursula get married in 1707 and have a son named Christian in 1713. I just want confirmation that I’m reading this right.

Hello @ChristinaW8,
Carsten is the mayor's assistant/servant ("Schultzens Knecht") and Christian is the son of Carsten who is the mayor's assistant/servant.
"Carsten Schwartz des Schultzens Knecht und sein Sohn Christian Schwartz" = Carsten Schwartz, the mayor's assistant, and his son Christian Schwartz.
