Questions about place and given names in baptism record from Kambs, Mecklenburg-Schwerin
This baptism record from Kambs, Mecklenburg-Schwerin for Anna Maria Vick (5th entry on the right) was indexed so I didn't need to translate it. I would appreciate any help with a few questions about the record.
Thank you! Debra
The place in the entry is L. Grenz. I think the abbreviation is for Lütten (also known as Klein Grenz) because other places on the same page are all near Klein Grenz according to Meyers Gazetteer i.e. 1st entry is G. Grenz (I think G. is for Gross), 3rd entry is Tatschow, 8th entry is Cambs and 9th entry is Bröbberow? I also think that L. Grenz was likely the residence of the parents and the birth place of the child?
I have a question about the given names for Maria Dorothea Vick (the wife of Jochim Friederich Lange from Reinshagen). In records that I have found, the given names vary between the records i.e. the name in her daughter's baptism record is Maria Vick, the name in her marriage record is Maria Dorothea Vicken, the name in her daughter's marriage record is Maria Vick, and the name in her son's baptism record is Maria Dorothea Vicken. The name Anna Maria Vick in this baptism (that I think could be for Maria Dorothea Vick) has the given name Anna which is not found in the other records and doesn't have Dorothea which is found in some of the other records. I know that given names for a person in German records can vary thru out the person's lifetime, so my question: is it very likely that this baptism record which has the given name Anna could be the same person as Maria Dorothea or Maria in the other records? The baptism year of 1767 for this record and the baptism year of 1787 for Maria Vick's daughter makes sense because she would be 20 years old in 1787 and her daughter was also baptized in Kambs.
Edited: The death record for Maria Dorothea Lange nee Vick could have additional information and possibly help answer the question about this 1867 baptism record being the same person because it would have the age at death (to calculate the birth year) and possibly the birthplace or other information. So it's okay if my question is not answered by Community at this time. I will research and try to find the death record.

Hello Debra,
just my thought on this: It is not uncommon that some of the names given at the baptism are not always listed in later records, like marriage or baptisms of the children (or that the names are in a different order). On the other hand I would consider it odd if an "additional" name appears in later documents (like Dorothea in this case) which is not in the birth record, and instead the baptismal name Anna is never used.
So my conclusion would be that Anna Maria and Maria Dorothea are most probably different persons.

I thought that the discrepancy of the names Anna Maria and Maria Dorothea was a problem that needed to be addressed. I agree with your conclusion and that the 1767 baptism record is very likely not the same person that I have been researching. I've searched the Kambs baptism registry for a wide range of years and there was no entry for Maria Dorothea Vick born in Lütten Grenz. So more research is needed in a different record collection. Thank you for your answer. I really appreciate the help!
