Hi,
I have just found the time to sit down and watch Discovering Your Ancestors in Wales. Very interesting but daunting in some ways as the Welsh language is not easy to learn or get your tongue around, well not for me anyway. It is said of Welsh that it is the language with a tax on vowels until you realise that in fact they have more vowels than English, just letters we don't use as vowels. An example is cwm, which means valley, and is pronounced cum (sort of). In this case the 'w' is a vowel.
As for the counties of Wales, they appear to have changed names again and it might be interesting to note that some of them now have Welsh names. For instance Montgomeryshire is now Powys, although we often get information with both names on. Looking for a modern county map of Wales and comparing it with older ones might be useful when looking for some records.

@Cedar Kedar Oh my goodness! Thank you for sharing this! YES, I love the idea of comparing archaic maps to current ones. That is such a great tool, no matter where in the world you are researching.
