How can I learn more about Hoogeveen, Drenthe, Netherlands?

My father was born in The Netherlands in 1902, and some of our family members are traveling there this spring. From about 1610 to 1850, we have 29 direct line ancestors that were born in Hoogeveen. We have quite a few sources for these ancestors, but I would like to be prepared to know more when we visit there. I haven't been able to find much reading material in English for Hoogeveen or the Drenthe Province. Any suggestions? By the way, one of the family members going is my grandson, who went to the Netherlands on his mission and he speaks Dutch, so books in Dutch are also of interest.

    Hello,

To get more information about the city of Hoogeveen, I would recommend to contact "de Historische Kring" (The Historical Circle) in Hoogeveen.

I am sure that some of them speak English.

    E-mail: info@historischekringhoogeveen.nl

The Historical Circle can also arrange walking tours with one of their guides.

    For more information see: https://www.historischekringhoogeveen.nl/1/nieuws-en-activiteiten/stadswandelingen.

Bob, enjoy your trip with the family to Hoogeveen, and Drenthe.

The Drents Archief has a lot of great documents, photos, and videos of Hoogeveen, and of Drenthe in general on their website.

They also have an emigrant database, which might be helpful for you.

While you are in Drenthe, you might want also want to visit the archive.

It's a good idea to contact them ahead of your visit, and arrange for a private tour.
