Revisiting Accuracy in FS Family Trees
some months ago I, and others, encouraged FS powers that be- to find ways to promote accepted genealogical practices for those adding to the FamilyTree. The answer was ...no changes seem necessary. Since that time, I've not been active in building trees on FS. Now I do use FS, which in all other aspects does promote genealogical methods and provides most valuable resources....documented properly too.
So recently I went looking through some family trees I had initiated or contributed to in the past only to find lots of "corrections," daughters in place of wife, wrong dates and places, as well as way inaccurate...Joe Smiths. And what was cited as a source...."Ancestry Tree," and other like. I did not correct the errors or even write to the contributor to offer some documentation, etc. And I won't, as someone else will come along and do it again...that's been my and many others experience.
What was suggested by me and several others on this site, was to have some educational drop-downs on the tree details page for contributors to have information about what constitutes "proof."
