Hi - you don't state if it is a transcript or a physical record, and if it is a record that is online or an original source. Mis-spellings as such can be quite common, occurring more frequently the older the record. I once found a marriage record in a parish register with three different spellings for the surname, once in the index for the register, the brides maiden surname, and the brides father. Which one do we pick as being correct? When it comes to mis-spelt place names, once again - which is the incorrect spelling. Unless of course the name is say London but is spelt Dondon.
Often records are only as accurate as the scribe or the informant could spell which back in the day was often not so good.
If the record you mention is a transcript perhaps the transcript is actually 100% accurate and the transcriber has recorded the exact spellings on the original record? Which is better- to correct incorrect grammar or to maintain 100% accuracy of the original record?
Re varying place-names and or names I don't worry too much as long as I can identify who is who and what is what. Below is a link to a knowledge article that may help
- Also note that FamilySearch may not own the record, and the agreement with the record owner does not allow for user-submitted corrections.
On a record details page, you can click Feedback to report errors. Find the button on the right side of the page.
Hope this helps.
