I just heard about this proposal to restrict access to vital records here in Massachusetts: "Baker’s budget would block public access to birth and marriage certificates for 90 years from their filing and death certificates for 50 years.
Unless the records belong to an individual, their family or a state or municipal clerk, anyone seeking them would need a court order."
What do you think of this idea?
I'm opposed to this plan, and have called my state rep and senator to urge them to remove this new proposal from the state budget.
Would anyone have insights into the economic impact of family history on Massachusetts, what benefits it brings to the state?
