My ancestor (surname - Proschinger) came from Třešť or Triesch (german spelling) in what is now the Czech Republic. Based on family stories he practiced the Greek Catholic religion. Are there any resources to look up what church they may have belonged to or a gazetteer that covered this region?

@ccr1107 I looked up Třešť  on the Brno archives website and there were no Greek Catholic parishes in that region. It would have been unusual for a Czech to be Greek Catholic at that time, as the vast majority of the population was required to be Roman Catholic under the Habsburgs and there weren't Greek Catholic parishes. I would suggest checking the Roman Catholic parish records for Třešť  instead. They can be searched here.

Thank you for both of your responses. My direct ancestor practiced the Roman Catholic religion and her brother is listed as Greek Catholic in a family history book. Before writing that off as an error, I thought I'd double-check. I'm assuming his religion was noted in the book, because it would have been an unusual fact. I thought the family "could" have started practicing Roman Catholicism in the US, because there were no Greek Catholic churches anywhere near they settled. However, I thought it was very unlikely, because of their parents surnames - Proschinger/Heindl, who were most likely ethnic Germans living in Trest. They refer to the city as Triesch, the German spelling, on all of their US documents. I'm assuming they spoke German. Thank you for your time and assistance. Happy Holidays!

P.S. I did have my direct ancestor's birth record and it simply recorded the family as Catholic. So I'm guessing that would mean they practiced the predominant Catholic religion in the area - Roman.
