Edit information about family members
Incorrect dates are attached to members of my family who have already been recorded on the site.
How can I edit information on my own tree?
My mother died in 2003, but Familysearch says she died in 1988 and I can’t change it.

Hi Dorothy,
If you could give us the ID number attached to your mother, we could look at it. Usually, in FamilySearch the edit button by the death should let you change the date. You may also want to add a source that shows the date, if possible.
If you and/or someone else have submitted a genealogy tree under Genealogies in the Search drop down, then that record stays unchanged.

I found if I go into the person’s date I want to correct, you will find a calendar in the left corner, if you click on that calendar it will allow you to correct the date and submit to FamilySearch why you corrected the date. I hope that helps.

Thank you very much Shannon and Carol. I was a complete beginner on this site and was in a panic, but calming down and using trial and error I was able to work it out. Then I entered details for a few more people , just to practise and consolidate what I’d learned.

Great! Keep it up. There are many learning classes and webinars available.
Click the Search at the top of a FamilySearch screen and choose Research Wiki.
On the left hand side of the window titled FamilySearch Research Wiki is a long list.
Click on Family History Library.
On that page select the small print Learning at the top. The Learning Center page will load. Type your topic in the box and select a webinar to watch.
You can also click on the question mark at the top right you FamilySearch page, to the left of your name after signing in.
Choose Help Center and then choose by topic under the various headings. Short explanations/guides are listed there to help you.
Enjoy.
