FamilySearch released a new feature today that will help us search for their unindexed record sets.
It is called "Explore Historical Images" and is found at https://www.familysearch.org/records/images/
This is the first time they have provided a single place where you can locate historical records that are not yet indexed. In the past some were found on the records search page at FamilySearch and other could only be located by searching in the Family History Library Catalog. Now they are all located in the same search tool. Remember you will be searching by loaction and record type not by a person's name.
Here are two article that help explain the feature and how to use it. To view them sign in to FamilySearch. Go to "Help" in the upper right corner of any page and from the drop down choose "Help Center." Copy and paste the title of the article you want into the search box and click search:
How do I use the "Explore Historical Images" feature? (616250)
How to understand your search results in FamilySearch Explore Images? (619640)

This is so exciting to have a new research tool to make it easier to access all the wonderful records that the FHL has! Bravo!

@Burnthorn Burnthorn - There appears to still be some restrictions. I haven't been able to get a definative answer about it. One person texted me that she understood that it is released but mostly to non-English speaking areas of the world where the need is higher to be able to access the unindexed records. I am trying to find out why they told the support missionaries this week that it was available but it isn't fully available. Confusing to say the least.

@Robert Givens @Burnthorn Burnthorn I am not sure why they told missionaries that it was fully available, but I do not believe it is available in English yet. This feature has been rolled out in stages, with English being made available at the end. Like Robert mentioned, this was done in an attempt to get the feature to non-English areas that might need it the most.

@Robert Givens They did not tell support missionaries that it was fully available--at least they didn't tell that to North America Operations Missionaries. The weekly updates indicated which new languages it has launched in. There are some of us who have early access for testing purposes but it has not launched in English yet to the general public.

Ron Tanner announced tonight that this new feature has been released to just 1% of the users of FamilySearch. As they like how it is working they will add more people until everyone has it.
