Suggestion for Standard Dates
When I enter a date, like 1848, then I get a popdown list from which I can select the only entry, 1848. And so the system is content. I said 1848 and it said 1848 and I said 1848 and now it says 1848.
I suggest that when the thing is very, very obvious we need not go thru all this. Just accept 1848 as 1848 and call it standardized. There isn't really any other interpretation possible for "1848".

Hello,
Standardizing places and names sometimes seems redundant, the system doesn't assume too many things when it comes to dates, especially, so people put in dates so many different ways and the computer needs to know exactly which date to use. For example:
7 June 1900 12:01am on the Seventh
June 1900 Computer uses the last day of June
1900 computer uses the last day of 1900.
In FamilySearch dates are very important; age restrictions, length of time restrictions

As of an update to Family Tree about a year ago, it is practically impossible to not standardize dates.
If I type in 1848:
then hit tab to go to the place field or just click into the place field, I see this:
So if there is a single entry in the date drop down menu, feel free to save a mouse click. Just ignore it and keep working. The date will standardize just fine.
Just be aware that if there are two choices in the menu:
just hitting tab will also standardize the date, but using the first choice of standard in the menu:
Which may or may not be what you mean.
