Translation and meaning of comment in baptism record
This baptism record is from 1836 in Barkhausen, Kreis Wittlage, in Osnabrück, Hannover, Prussia. The information about the child and his parents is written clearly enough, but I am uncertain about the meaning of the comments in the right side columns. The child is obviously illegitimate, but the notes seem to imply something more. Have I translated the remarks correctly? Does it say that the child was fathered by another man? Note that the recorded parents were not married at the time, but eventually married in 1839 and had two more children.
I transcribe the information as this:
Nr. 87
Residence: Brokhausen (=Brockhausen)
Occupation: Schmidtgesells aus Linken, Kirchsp[iel] Buer
House number: 22
Surname: Benhof
Parent's names: Herrmann Heinrich and Marie Elisab. Weber
Born: 20 October [1836]
Baptized: 30 October
Child's name: Johann Friedrich
Godparent: Johann Friedrich Benhof in Brokhausen, Bruder des vorgegeb[ene]? Vaters
Remarks: unehelich gezeugt und geboren. Angezeugt von dem Heuerling Friedr. Schierbaum in Brokh[ausen]
[Begat and born legitimately. Begat by the tenant Friedrich Schierbaum in Brokhausen.] ?
I will attach snips of the record in question. The image was found on Archion in the following collection. I will also include the Permalink.
