Translation help needed on 1838 baptism of Catharina Maria Elisabeth Sticht
I am hoping for some help with a translation of this record. The Ancestry index says birth was 4 Sep 1837, and baptism 16 Sep 1838; the baptism date is correct; however, I do not see anything to indicate that she was 1 year old when baptised. (The birth is listed as legitimate; the parents were married in July 1838. Does their marriage legitimize the child even though she was conceived prior to the marriage?). Also, among the witnesses is Garlef M [Michaelsen]. He is the maternal grandfather: does it say he is deceased?
Any help would be appreciated. This record is from: Bremen, Germany and Hannover, Prussia, Germany, Lutheran Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1574-1945; Bremervörde>Bremervörde>Taufen, Heiraten, Tote u Konfirmanden 1805-1839 (Ancestry image 879). It is on the right side of page 369, 16 Sep 1838. Here is the Ancestry link: https://www.ancestry.com/imageviewer/collections/61007/images/1188954-00878?usePUB=true&usePUBJs=true&pId=17649

Not a problem
>I am very sure the surname is Sticht
OK sounds like you have good evidence.
>Is it possible the last word in the record is toten (which I assume may mean dead or deceased)? What do you think the three words following his name are?
A have looked and looked at this and I am pretty certain the last word is "Sohn" (son) but cannot guess what they others are.
>Did you see anything in this record to indicate Catharine's birth year is not the same as her baptism year?
It definitely says "geb. 4 Sept" and I think it says "nachts 6 Uhr gewesen" (born 4 Sept at 6PM). Doesn't look like a year is written, which would indicate it occurred recently before the baptism

Hi
A few thoughts
I can't see anything that suggests Garlef is deceased, although it is quite hard to make out.
I also think the index might be wrong, with the surname being Ficht, not Sticht.

Thank you for your prompt reply, @JamesHoffmann1.
I am very sure the surname is Sticht, since I know that Margaretha Michaelsen did in fact marry Johann Sticht (not Ficht). I have found a number of records of their other children, which confirm this. Also, I know from their marriage and other records that Margaretha Michaelson was the daughter of Garlef Michaelsen, who according to my research had died in 1834. Is it possible the last word in the record is toten (which I assume may mean dead or deceased)? What do you think the three words following his name are?
Did you see anything in this record to indicate Catharine's birth year is not the same as her baptism year?

Thank you, @JamesHoffmann1. I appreciate your taking a further look at this record. I agree with you that the last word may be Sohn...if so, it may refer to Harm Michaelson who would be the son of Garlef. And thanks for confirming that there is not a prior year given for the birth date. It appears the Ancestry index is in error.
Regards,
Brenda

Hello @Brenda P Hayward and @Robert Seal_1
just a remark on the word "Altvater": Note that this word can also mean grandfather in some dialects. From the posts above I see that Garlef Michaelsen has been identified as the father of Margarethe, the mother of the newborn, thus the child's grandfather.
