You may have a much easier time with your research in Pedara, Catania if you work with the civil records, since they are in Italian as opposed to the church records which are in Latin. An added bonus is that, typically, the civil records are indexed - not always, but commonly. In the case of Pedara during this time the indexes are by given name, not surname. But, at least they are there. Also, the civil records are often easier to read as they often use a prescribed form. Again, many exceptions exist, but this partular comune seems to be very workable.
