Need translation help for 1788 birth record in German
I am hoping to translate this as much as possible. It’s a scan from my 2nd great-grandfather’s book he wrote documenting our family history. I know it’s for a relative named Thomas Laurentius Santinsensini. This is also a deadend that we’ve had in my family for decades. Maybe someone can help?? Thank you in advance!!!

At that time, in the late 18th century, there were probably very few catholics in Copenhagen, mostly members of the foreign legations and foreign merchants (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Ansgar%27s_Cathedral)
This is also the reason why the document was signed by the "k.k. Austrian Legation Chaplain".

"aquinas" seems not to be a name as such, as the first letter is not capitalized. The whole record is in Latin, aquinas means "from Aquino", a city near the center of Italy. Remeber the famous middle-age philosopher Thomas Aquinas (Thomas from Aquino); maybe this child was just baptized in his honor.

Also, I know it’s a copy of the record from 1788, not the actual record. But I’m not sure I would know where to find that either. I can’t even tell what church or parish its from. I just had a friend’s mother confirm that it is actually written in German.

Hello @aimeemcdaniel1
I was a bit curious about the (at least in Copenhagen) unusal name Sanctisensini and did a Google search. This led me to a danish genealogy site https://forum.slaegt.dk/index.php?topic=119334.0 , where an Inge Juech - apparently a decendant of him as well - asked for information. Do you know her? Otherwise it may be a good idea to contact her and exchange information... 😀
Here comes a translation of her post:
My 3x great-grandfather Sancti Sensini goes bankrupt in 1795 with his business and residence at Østergade no. 9 in Copenhagen.
On 12.6. 1794 he married for the 3rd time Catharina Sell after the death of his 2nd wife in 1794. (Maria Verhufen )
He dies in a general hospital on 26 January 1800.
Who can help to find Catharina Sell after his death.
And where do they live from 1795 to 1800?

@Ulrich Neitzel thank you so much for your response!!! And so quickly! I will reach out to inge. According to my family’s written history, the Santisensini’s were actually from Sorrento, Italy near Naples and were fishers. The emigrated to Denmark where they had Thomas. But, I don’t know European history well enough to know why they would go to a German speaking parish? Or why they emigrated in the first place. I’m very interested you know if they are the same family as Inge’s and maybe we can both get some answers.
thank you again SO MUCH! I’m so excited about this :)

I’m still not sure which church it is in Copenhagen. Is there only 1 Catholic Church? What is it called?

The original birth record actually says “Thomas aquinas Laurentius…” I don’t see that on any other record but it doesn’t seem to be a middle name of his…? Any thoughts or ideas on this?
