Was there ever an Elocha Poland?
My ancestor completed a US Declaration of Intention on April 1, 1926, including information that he was born in Trembowla Poland on Dec 2, 1892.
On May 4, 1944 he completed a Petition for Naturalization listing his birthplace as Elocha Galicia Poland on December 15, 1891.
I have discovered other relatives for which various birthdates have been reported so I'm not surprised about the difference in birth dates for him. However I am looking for assistance
as to why the birth place is contradictory? Are these locations adjacent to each other? Any recommendations as to which Greek Catholic Metrical Books available to view on Family Search would contain his birth registration?

@Nininan Was your ancestor able to read and write? From the petition, can you determine if he completed the form himself or if someone else wrote what he said?
I ask because we often see that placenames are written as the clerk or helper heard them, not as they would be written by someone who spoke the language.
We also often see that someone will name the nearest town or other place rather than the exact location of birth or residence.
