Looking for Anne or Annie Mary Conlon. She was from Sliger, Ireland, and came to the U.S. in 1955.
My DIL's deceased grandmother immigrated to the U.S. I THINK in 1955. I can follow her once she got here, but she never talked about Ireland, and we don't even know her mother and father's names. I'm the genealogist in the family, and as a gift for my DIL I am going to attempt to find out what I can about her ancestors roots in Ireland. Her birthdate is 4/1/28 and my DIL THINKS that she came over here with a sister. Where do I begin?

Hello Jean,
You have quite a challenge on your hands there given the small amount of information that you have. The names Ann, Mary and Conlon are all particularly frequently found in Ireland. Also, I don't recognize the location "Slinger" as an Irish place name.
Irish birth records are made public after 100 years, therefore you have a few years before her birth record will be searchable. If you could find her birth record, it would give her parents names and location of birth.
Given so little to go on, I would suggest you initially focus on what US records you can find, with an aim of gathering yourself some additional data to give you a foothold back into the Irish records. If she applied for US Naturalization, that application will be a treasury of excellent information that you can use to find the correct Irish records.
A US Naturalization application will include details of her birth location and likely her parents names, her date of travel to the US and her last residence address in Ireland.
Best regards,
John.

I wonder if "Sliger" is meant to be County Sligo.

There is a great website for Irish vital records - free. But, there is a 100-year privacy rule on births meaning a 1928 birth will not be online.
Do you know the names of her parents? Can you obtain any of her records here to give you the names of her parents? With those details, you might find the record for the marriage of parents. The privacy law for marriages is only 75 years, and those are available online. https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/civil-search.jsp
The marriage of her parents will have the names of both fathers. With that info, then, it usually becomes fairly easy to find their births, which will have the names of their mothers.

There is a Mary Anne Conlon Born in 1929 in Sligo is it possible the Date of Birth is not 1928 but 1929 in the County of Roscommon and Silgo if so it gives her Mothers Maiden Name as Gilhooly no first name , Mothers Maiden Names where not recorded on the Birth Indexs to Civil Registration certs until 1929 record coverage. She was Registered in January 1929 in the District of Boyle. This may be of some help to you if you can get more information on her that might clarify this information i am giving you if it is the Same Person.
