I need another opinion on this marriage record, specifically the bride's father's name. The bride seems to be Filomena Masilan, but the father is named Don Jose Santa Maria, deceased, and the mother of the bride is Caralina Peñaranda (both Indians). This is 1855 in Tanay, Rizal, Philippines, years before the Spanish surnames were officially assigned (about 1870) so I'm wondering if the father did not have a surname? Or is it assumed to be Masilan (an unusual name in the Philippines)? The daughter does not have her mother's surname of Peñaranda so I'm perplexed. Any suggestions would be appreciated?

Hola A.M.
