In the timeline, can see that in 1910 Chemss Kazakmamsa journeyed from Patras, Greece to New York, in 1922 journeyed from US to Turkey. Where is the correct town and province you are looking for?
It would be great if you put the records of Chemss Kazakmamsa and his/her family into FamilySearch Family Tree so that someone be able adding more information.

Hello, I attached the link to the Passport Application from 1922. The individual's name is George Andre. The place he lists for birth is Chemss Kazakmamsa, Turkey. I have been unable to locate a town or province with that name or even close to. I am looking for help in determining what town and province Chemss Kazakmamsa are.
I keep my family tree in another database and use family search for records and hints.
Thank you
Jeanine

Hi Jeanine!
Having experience with Asia Minor and Greek research (I have ancestors from there myself) I feel I am qualified to help you.
One thing to note before explaining my findings is the interesting pronunciation of words in the Turkish language. This language uses Latin letters like English, but also has a few different letters that are not found in English. I recommend putting these following places into Google Translate, pressing 'Turkish,' and listening to how it sounds to how "Chemss Kazakmamsa" looks like.
Most people who left for the United States or Australia/New Zealand from Patras were from Asia Minor. This is because many ships went straight to Patras from those locations because it is closer geographically to the Atlantic. If they would have embarked from Athens or Chania to the US for example, the ship still has half of the country to go around. Patras would've been the most logical port that people from this region left from.
I have also found a few locations on Turkey's Mediterranean coast and western half that have pronunciation resemblance to the place listed in the Passport Application. It is also interesting to note that the word for 'Town' in Turkish is "kasaba." Anyway - Here are the places:
Kahramanmaraş
Kastamonu
Karaağaç
Do your own research, and hopefully you determine or find a place. If not, I know of a research expert who may be able to help you.
P.S. Have you found any sort of place of. birth listed besides this record?

This group is in a public category. It would be great if the Turkish people can come to join and help answer this question.
