How to access Family History Library catalogs
I am looking for the birth certificate of my grandfather. I know the year of birth and location is New. York. Using familysearch.com I have found quite a bit of info but not what his name was at birth. I was considering heading into the Family History Library (or enlisting someone to do so on my behalf) but it appears they are closed indefinitely. Could anyone help guide me as to how I could access those records in this current situation?
Thanks in advance.

I am "Tagging" this general 'Question' of yours, to the 'Group' being "New York" ( DESCRIPTION: New York Genealogy )
https://community.familysearch.org/s/group/0F93A000000DHnKSAW/new-york
in this "Community.FamilySearch" Forum; so that, the members of that group can possibly answer/assist you.

You could try one of the FREE 20 Minute 'on-Line' Congratulations with the "Family History Library" (FHL) of the Church, in "Temple Square", in "Salt Lake City", Utah, USA.

Hi Jesse,
Do you know what county they lived in and what time period? There may be some digitized images that aren't indexed yet.

Hi all, thanks for the responses.
@Carol Lou Hill They lived in New York City (assuming that's the county as well) from 1915-1930. I have found some census data confirming this, but don't know exactly when they left NY.
@Dennis J Yancey Thanks so much for this link. Strangely, I could not find a relative (the father of the one whose birth certificate I'm trying to find) on the death index even though I know the date of their death. However, my cousin has found their death certificate via ancestry.com
Onward!

Have you checked out the image search on FamilySearch? Do you know what part of New York City they lived in? I did an image search for New York City and then put in that I only want to look at birth records. It came up with baptism and birth records. See if you can find something in one of these image sets. https://www.familysearch.org/records/images/search-results?page=1&place=399970&lifeEvent=102243

Wow, looks like I've got my homework for the next couple of weeks now..
Thanks for the link to the records, I found the Index of Births for the range of years covering my relatives birth but it doesn't appear to be in any specific order and is about 5300 images long. Not impossible but it will take me some time to parse through.
Have a blessed week.
