Familysearch has done such a fantastic job of my family tree, but these two are missing. Both kept the family name of Green and it was a small community in Tn where this happened. All the family was deceased before I was old enough to try to find out history. Can a DNA get me any help in this?? If so, which one??? Thank you in advance ===== William Green

DNA testing helped me to find names of my Mother’s Biological family members. My Mother passed away in 2015 never knowing who her biological family was. I did AncestryDNA and 23andMe. I was able to figure out more of the connection through AncestryDNA because I paid for membership to be able to contact other dna matches and view their family tree information. So if you can afford it, I’d say do BOTH test. You may see matching names on BOTH test. Helps with elimination process in my opinion. Some people can. Be eliminated by date/year of birth.

Thanks jstheidi for sharing your success. Could you share more about how you were able to figure out the family members from your DNA results?

It is definitely possible that a DNA test can help you to figure out who your father and grandfather might be. I would recommend taking an Ancestry DNA test first and if you have the funds to do so, a 23andMe test. I have been able to help some cousins and friends find unknown parents using their DNA and would be happy to tell you the next steps to take when your results come back.

There are several companies that you can upload your DNA results to without a charge. It is helpful to have your DNA in as many places as possible. The best DNA company for you, is to have your DNA in the same database as your closest relative. Ancestry and 23andme do not allow uploads.
