User Tree blocking other sections

It has taken 2 days to realize what the problem is. When I go directly to "Temple hints" and "Record hints" without looking at the tree, I get an error message

This message creates a lot of confusion. After trying various things, I realized my "User Tree " was in place.

Then I saw a small button "Tree Details"

How would I know what that meant? When I opened it, I found that I could designate which tree I could choose to be the Preferred Tree! Could the preferred tree function be referenced instead of the Oops! message. That is a great drop down once you know it is there!
