Italy Civil Registration records missing from 1860 to 1930's?
I am working with the Italy civil registration records for Benevento Italy. I am wondering why the marriage and death records stop at 1860 and don't continue until the 1930"s. Are those records missing or just not digitized yet? Thanks, C Taylor

Unfortunately, I do not have contact with the Records department to know how to answer your question. Perhaps someone else has a contact? Italy has privacy laws that do not allow many records in the last 100+ years to be accessed., but for the time period from 1860-1900 it is unknown why we do not have those records, whether they were lost, destroyed or simply yet inaccessible for various reasons.
May I suggest you contact the Catholic Church or municipality of Benevento and request records directly through them?

Carrie, I have the same problem in Avellino, the adjacent province. Several years ago I paid a researcher in Italy to provide me with some records. I have his photograph images, but I have not been able to locate them on line as yet. In short, I know they exist, but perhaps have not yet been digitized. CHuck

@CarrieATaylor I am wondering if the location you are looking for is listed in the catalog as Italy, Benevento, Benevento? I accessed this location from the home page by clicking Search, then Catalog from the drop down menu. In the place field, I entered: Italy, Benevento, Benevento and clicked the default in green, then Search.
In the subjects listed, I clicked Civil Registration. From the blue collections listed I clicked: "Italia, Benevento, Benevento, Stato civile: Comune, 1861-1930. Here is link: https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/2477493?availability=Family%20History%20Library
Are these the records you were looking for?

Those are only for the comune (town) of Benevento, and are the town's own copies of the records as opposed to the second/archive copies. I suspect she is referring to the province of Benevento, which contains several dozen towns, including the town of Benevento.
In any case, it is true that the State Archives of Benevento are missing the second/archive copies of marriage and death records from 1866 to 1930. The State Archives never received them from the district court (Tribunale) and the court does not know where they are. So researchers looking for marriage or death records during this time period must contact individual towns directly to request a copy.

Thank you for your answers. It seems clear that I will have to contact the town to find out what I need.
