Syncing data from 3d party to CET

Anne,
I love how your thoughts are quickly piecing together so many things. I'll try and reply briefly to each item:
1) Syncing data with 3rd party products: You will be able to create a CET and have it automatically stay in sync with the 3rd party product if the tree is created from a 3rd party product. for a more complete answer please see Aprils post entitled "Can you add to a Gedcom that…"
2) Multiple CETs: During this early phase of testing a user may own or be a member of up to 10 CETs & Family Groups (combined). It is anticipatde that this will soon change to allow more, and would value feedback on what that number should be. This would allow you to have CETs to address the various multiple user needs you outline above.
3) Collaborate w/o Access: By default all of the deceased persons in your CET are visible to other users. They will show up in tree search results, they can navigate your tree, they can communicate with you through the system wide messaging. Only you and those you've invited into your tree will see the living. There will not likely be a way to invite people into your tree, but programmatically lock them out of editing all but an authorized line. You could invite them in and tell them to constrain themselves to a specific line and uninvited them if they do not honor your request.
4) CETs & Family Tree: All of the trees in FamilySearch are islands unto themselves and relationships between PIDs do not extend across tree boundaries. Teams are working on a future feature that will match your tree against other trees and alert you when a high confidence match is found across trees. A new tool is being designed, based on the SourceLinker model for attaching a record persona to a tree person, that will allow aligning two trees against each other and copying data/people from one tree to the other. The system is being built such that you can work exclusively in your CET if you wish while drawing upon all other FamilySearch data from trees, records, etc,
5) Private communication w/in a CET: On the tree details page for each CET there is a Chat tab next to the Tree Details tab. This is a private communication available to the owner, co-owners and members of a tree to organize their work. Only those in the tree can see this chat.0
