HODOR family - GR8M-8FK
Hello! Looking for information (marriage and parents) of my ancestor Gregorius Hodor, from Ohradzany, Humenné, Slovakia b. about 1833. Where do I find Slovakian marriage/ church records of Jewish ancestry. (not to be confused with hold the door)
Any assistance would be so appreciated. As I am hitting a wall. He has 2 possible parental lineages but I can't prove either way if it's his parents or not. I know for sure his son was Stanislaus Hodor.
Thank you!!!😍
I am convinced his parents are Andreas and Maria Halaskovics but I can't prove it… YET!

If they really were Jewish, then the birth records you're looking for probably do not exist. This is generally the case for Jewish records before about the mid-1800s in the Kingdom of Hungary. (It's quite frequent to encounter a situation like I have for my spouse's paternal grandmother's ancestors: the catalog says "1848-1895", but the film actually skips from 1849 to 1858.)
However, with names like Gregorius and Stanislaus, I'm doubtful of the Jewish possibility. Boys from a semi-random 1850s Jewish register page: Leb, Hirs, Josef, Aron, Isak. That's a mix of Hebrew and Yiddish names. In contrast, Gregorius and Stanislaus are in Latin, which usually means Catholic (most often Roman but sometimes Greek), although it can also occur in Protestant registers.
And indeed, the Gregorius Hodor who was baptized in Göröginye on 5 March 1833 was a Roman Catholic infant born in Szopkócz. He was not Jewish, and it doesn't make sense to go looking for Jewish ancestors for him, when his Roman Catholic parents are listed right there in his baptismal record. Or have I completely misunderstood your question?
If the screenshot in Gregorius Hodor's Memories corresponds with the Ancestry record in his Sources, then you can discard that possibility: that child was a twin and is marked deceased. (For completeness, the FS index entry that Ancestry has tried to paywall is https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:V1NG-WN5.)
(Rule of thumb for future use of Ancestry: if it's from Hungary or Slovakia, they've copied it from FamilySearch. Skip the middleman and do the search on FS. And a general rule: if at all possible, always check the actual document, or an image of it. Do not stop at the index unless that's all that survives. If the image is available but you can't read it, find a forum [such as this one] and ask for help.)
I realize that there may be more documentation than what has made its way onto the FS profiles, but I see no support whatsoever for placing Stanislaus Hodor's ancestors anywhere in the Kingdom of Hungary — nor, indeed, anywhere within greater Austria-Hungary. The passenger manifest that has been attached to him says Germany, and the closest you can get to any overlap between Germany and Hungary is Sigismund of Luxembourg (1368-1437), who was King of Germany (by election) as well as King of Hungary (by marriage). That's over four centuries too early to be relevant to your guy, however.

@Julia Szent-Györgyi Hello!
This was helpful but it does lead to a lot of other questions. I will keep looking in FS and see what I am able to find. I hit a block for now. Thank you for all of your help! Much appreciated.
