Croatians moving to Oregon, USA - 1900/1910

With the help of others - we have made great strides understanding our family from the Lupoglav area near Zagreb. We are confident he (and several family members) came to the Kansas City, Kansas (KCK) Croatian enclave along the rivers for workers at the huge meat packing plants about 1905. We are also confident in his history after 1910 where he worked in logging camps until 1918, joined the US Marine Corps, and retired from the Corps in 1948.
The next hard thing is figuring out some likely reasons he moved to NW Oregon This is where I ask for help!
Possible Reasons:
- Working at a packing plant is hard and unpleasant work and he sought a change.
- I have seen census documents where nearly an entire railroad construction crew was from Croatia - maybe the railroad or other recruiters came through KCK?
- Perhaps he left with a relative or friend to find a better life (he was young, b1889)?
Anyway - any ideas welcome, especially those connected to sources I can research!
