Wetzikon ZH - sales contract - 1742 - Jenta - tannery Medikon
I had mentioned the helpful staff at Zürich State Archive in a recent post - here's the contract from Martini 1742: Conrad Jenta bought the tannery in Medikon - see https://www.geneal-forum.com/phpbb/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=33897#p127315. In case you want to download the images and put them on your web site: please, use exactly the legend from the forum, i.e.

Wow. That is an amazing document! It also shows me how the General-forum works. It was nice to see Peter chime in with his thought.
After we got back from Switzerland in 2019. I began work on my Sidler line from Ottenbach. I communicated with the Zürich State Archive a number of times. They were very helpful but after a while they told me to hire a researcher. They didn't want to help any further. I'm glad you have a good relationship with the Archive and that they will help you.
This is an amazing document and I loved reading the translation. Thanks for posting it on the Geneal-Forum. I posted it to Conrad Jenta's page with the exact legend. All the best, Kent

"They were very helpful but after a while they told me to hire a researcher."
That is fully understandable: their staff have limited capacity to answer genealogical questions - this is not their main duty. So one shouldn't overdo it - I contact them usually only once or twice a year when I really need help. As all church records are online (even if not available from home) I wouldn't ask for copies from these. Our regional genealogical society has once a month a meeting at the local familysearch center - so there I can access digitized records - whenever I feel the persons asking for help for some reason cannot do it themselves.

Two comments:
The "nnn" was supposed to be replaced by the page number ;-).
The resolution of your images is too low to read the text with any confidence - may I suggest you add a link to Geneal-Forum, so (at least registered) visitors can read it with full resolution?

All I wanted from them was one last document from the Archive. I did know this wasn't their job. I found the wanted document later on FamilySearch in any case..
I am learning about the forum. Thanks. I will get better at this. When you post a document from blogger do you click on the document so it is free standing and then copy the URL?
In the Conrad document it says: "House and home together with the gerwi and bark trunk as….." What is the bold word? This is probably a deepL problem. That is all I have to work with to translate your words.
On low resolution photos I have found that sometimes you can make them big on your computer and then take a screen shot and you can sort of force a larger photo. I have done this when colorizing very low resolution photos on MyHeritage and it will make the photo large enough to colorize. I will try a link instead though.

Well - I guess they assumed it would not be the last one. As I said - I would not ask for copies if the data are online, e.g. on familysearch. Their main job is to archive all relevant documentation for the canton's administration.

If I want to link to it - yes, that's the way to do it.

Gerwi is the abbreviated word for Gerberei (tannery) in the old spelling (w instead of b). I am not surprised DeepL has a problem with that ;-).
On low resolution photos ….
Forget screenshots, whenever possible. In the forum large images are displayed as thumbnails (to speed up loading), click on it to see the full resolution image and copy it (right click on Windows). In order to link to the topic on the forum (not possible to link to an image directly) link to https://www.geneal-forum.com/phpbb/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=33897#p127315 instead.

gerwi and bark trunk
bark trunk is incomplete: Stampfi = Stampfmühle is a stamp mill (correct English word?).

Hi. Yes I think stamp mill is the correct word. It is a contraption that presses down on the leather to remove fat and make the leather sit flat. Wikipedia says it is normally used for ore but I'm sure a tannery needs the same machine.
I tried to find Chrisoph Haßler in the Wetzikon area. I did find one but didn't find the word Gerwer or tanner in any of his documents. I noticed on the same page what looks like numbers or purchase prices. I assume the document doesn't say anything about how much Conrad paid for the tannery.
I use a Mac and checked out the size of your documents. They are in the 1.3mb range which is a very good size. That makes it great for archiving and enhancing in Apple's Photos. I appreciate people who post large size documents related to my ancestors.
The Zurich Archives has a lot of great people who were very helpful to me and my research. It was there I realized I could read German names. That was a big step for me. Before I thought it was impossible.
It looks like you live in a beautiful part of Switzerland. When we visited there we thought the whole country was storybook beautiful. All the best.

No - but not sure how to describe it. It is a large machine used to crush tree bark - which then is a component of the chemical used to tan the leather. This machine will usually run by a watermill - one of the reasons why a tannery is always next to some sort of river. You will have a similar machinery e.g. also in a smithy.

Thanks for the clarification! I will add it to Conrad's history!!
I must tell you how wonderful it is to have this document including the name of the person who sold Conrad the property!
Four or so years ago I went on Ancestry and found a person who had quite a bit of information on the Jenta line. His name is Peter Bertschinger. We communicated for about a year every day or two. Much of the Sidler and Jenta historical information came from him. He read encyclopedias just for fun. One time he was asked to write the history of Fauci, which he did. Peter lived near Wetzikon and once sent me his history and I made plans to go visit him when the world calms down a little.
Now that I'm working on the line. We have made amazing progress. I decided to contact him and let him know some of the wonderful things we have uncovered. Ancestry says he has not been online for a few months. I'm fearful he may have passed away. You don't happen to know him did you?

Peter Bertschinger: I only know him as author of https://www.wetzipedia.ch/w/images/0/0b/Flurnamen_von_Ettenhausen_Peter_Bertschinger_31_Oktober_2012.pdf

Well done! The man is a walking encyclopedia. I hope he just under the weather and will return to us. He would love hearing all the research you have done!
