Passport Records in Bremen search
I am looking for a city of origin of an ancestor by the name of Frank Lazebnick (Americanized spelling of his name). He was born about 1847 -1852 (dates vary). I know he left the port of Bremen Oct 2, 1882 and arrived in New York the 23rd of Oct 1882 on the Ship Werra. He settled in Cincinnati, Ohio.
From census records and family lore, I suspect that he is from the Schleswig-Holstein area of Germany. He spoke a high German dialect but I am not sure what that means. His death certificate states his parents are Franz Lazebnick and Eliza Muskel. If anyone can guess to the German version of Lazebnick that might be helpful too.

There is a website where you can enter a surname and it shows the distribution of that surname in Germany. I entered Lazebnik and it shows two cities where all the Lazebniks in Germany are. See the map here:
http://geogen.stoepel.net/?q=lazebnik
Unfortunately it shows it on an unlabeled map and I haven't figured out how to get the name of the location. Maybe someone else can figure out what these two town names are?
Edit: I found an older version that identifies the two areas:
1 population at Münster (Nordrhein-Westfalen) and 1 population in Region Hannover (Niedersachsen)

Hi,
There is a family tree on ancestry. com that contains a Frank J LaZebnick supposedly born October 17, 1847 at Wilster (Steinburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany). Maybe that is the person you are looking for?
You can get access to ancestry at the familysearch centers, I think.
The protestant church books from Wilster are on the German paysite archion. de
Kind regards
