Difficulty working on site
This has been an ongoing problem for weeks now. I don't know if it has to do with the updates being implemented - the new Source linker maybe? - or what is going on but I'm only having this issue while working on Family Search. It doesn't matter whether I'm using Firefox or Chrome, although it does seem to be more problematic with Firefox more often. It doesn't matter whether or how often I clear cookies or the cache. This happens before and after both actions.
The site simply bogs down. I'll get messages from both browsers that "this page is slowing down the site" and asks me if I want to wait or shut it down. I'll shut the page down, try again, and get the same error message. It doesn't matter whether I'm trying to view a profile, a record, or adding the record via Source Linker. It just stops working. There is something going on in the background of the site because when it happens, I can hear my computer working hard (or more precisely, my computer's fan really revs up).
I can not figure out a rhyme or reason for why this is happening. The last time it was this bad, I closed all the windows and didn't revisit the site for hours. I don't know if that's what fixed it or if it was simply time that solved it.
My hubs is a software engineer so I know that even a little code change can have unintended consequences. This one is really inconvenient.

@LisaAlbert1 In my experience, the extreme slowdown stems from the New Image Viewer/Editor. That's when I see the "this page is slowing down Firefox." At times, it is so bad that using the New Image Viewer in Firefox will bring everything else on my computer to a screeching halt.
If I close the New Image Viewer, all processes return to normal.

@Áine Ní Donnghaile, I'm not sure what you mean by New Image Viewer/Editor. Do you mean since the update a year ago (or is it longer ago than that?) Or another new thing? I'd appreciate if you could take a screen shot so I understand what you mean, thanks! But it sounds like this is what is going on with me. It's definitely getting worse and yes, it brings everything to a screeching halt. And I'm the one doing the screeching out of frustration.

The old Image Viewer (which can still be used by editing the URL)
The same record as seen in the New Image Viewer/Editor which can take several minutes to load, and sometimes makes it impossible to view the record again. You'll notice that the Indexed Data column is empty. That's what happens when we try to edit an indexing error.

@Áine Ní Donnghaile, thanks, now I understand what you mean. I wasn't a fan of the new Image Viewer/Editor for a number of reasons (can't close the bottom banner, for one, too many mouse clicks required to get to full screen view, for another). I'm even less of a fan now that I learn that it may be the cause of the problems I'm experiencing.
I just read the comments on that thread (thanks!). I can't recall if I ever fixed any transcription errors under the old software but I know I've done that a few times since the update (and now I'm worried that the record is temporarily locked from view, ack!).
I have found a few discrepancies between what shows on the transcript on the Sources page for a profile, on the actual record and on the Edit page for that record. I recently came across this situation: the location listed on the record and in the edit field is correct, however, the transcript on the Sources page showed an incorrect location, one that doesn't appear anywhere in the record. I've added notes to the transcript record on the Sources page regarding this but that seems to be all I can do. All I can hope is that someone does more than click Sources to get the summary information before making any edits to a Profile page. If not, any edits they make will be incorrect because the transcript is incorrect. I don't know if this is related to any of these other issues, but regardless, it sounds like I should report this in detail the next time it happens in the thread you linked above. In the meantime, I'll be following the conversation in that thread.
It's nice to be able to make edits but on the other hand, it could also cause all kinds of issues if someone either doesn't know what they are doing or isn't careful. Yesterday, I fixed a Profile edit that showed an ancestor dying 2 years before they were born, and somehow - magically - getting married and having children despite those pesky complications. It was all due to a record getting attached that clearly did not belong to that person but all the same, it was attached and the information was edited to fit the record. There were all kinds of red alerts about the error in the right hand column but they appear to have been ignored.
