Need help translating pg 45 on this document particularly the writing in the left margin.

I think that the note in the left margin says that the father's residence is Mátramindszent, not Mátraballa.

The rest basically says József Orosz was born on 17Apr1906 in Mátramindszent to the late József Orosz(born Mátramindszent, living in Mátraballa, age 23) and the widow Mrs József Orosz, maiden name Étel Gyetvai(born Mátraballa, living Mátramindszent, age19). Both parents are Roman Catholic.

Informant: Mrs. István Miklós born Terézia Mózer, community midwife, whom the below-written assistant registrar knows personally.

Father: the late József Orosz, Roman Catholic, coal-mine worker, residence Mátraballa, birthplace Mátramindszent, age 23 years.

Mother: widow Mrs. József Orosz born Etel Gyetvai, Roman Catholic, residence Mátramindszent, birthplace Mátraballa, age 19 years.

Birth: Mátramindszent, 17 April 1906, 2 a.m.

Child: boy, Roman Catholic, József.

Remark: Informant remarks that she assisted with the birth and was tasked with the reporting by the newborn's mother.

Margin: Before signatures, it is remarked that the father's residence is not "Mátraballa", but "Mátramindszent".

(Well, OK, one nitpicky disagreement: the mom is Etel. "Étel" is "food".)

Thank you for the translation. This confirms the family story that the Father died prior to his son's birth. Am also looking for the Death Records for the Father who we heard died in a mining accident somewhere near Salgotararjan, Hungary.

I'm not finding his death anywhere in or near Salgótarján. This may be simply because the relevant civil register hasn't been indexed yet, but all of the ones I've checked have been indexed, so I'm starting to suspect that he died somewhere a few miles further north -- in what is now Slovakia. None of the civil registers are online anywhere from any place that's now in Slovakia.

There was a big mining accident in 1906 -- in France. It's unfortunately making it difficult to search for any newspaper reports about mining accidents near Salgótarján.

I see that you've already got their marriage in Recsk (in 1905 -- boy, was she a young widow!); the fact that it doesn't have an annotation about his death supports its location being across the county line somewhere. (Registrars were supposed to notify each other of such things, but it very often didn't happen, especially if it was a different county.)

Just heard that my sister-in-law has a copy of all of Jozsef Orosz 1882-1906,'s records & this information was not forthcoming till yesterday. i will ask for copies. Thanks for your help.
