Modification of Couple Relationship Pop Up
I came up with the following in another discussion but liked my resulting mock up so much I hope you don't mind me posting it again here for evaluation.
Also, I assume you are working on your own plans for couple events and sourcing so there is probably actually no need for me to bring this up. But that never stopped me in the past!
We now have the ability to tag data in the Other Information section and to couple events . It's been discussed before in this group that a flaw in tagging those couple events is that we can only tag sources from the Couple Relationship source list, not sources from either of the couple's sources page. Being able to tag those individual sources to the couple event would be very helpful.
Another point that has bearing on couple event sources, is that I have never run across a couple event source that I have not wanted to include on a person's individual source page. If I were able to tag an individual source to the couple event, I would probably never add a source to the couple relationship pop up ever again but only to each of the couple's individual source page then tag it.
Accordingly, it would be a step towards treating couple events like vital events and other information events if:
- The ability to add sources to the couple relationship pop up was removed, leaving any current sources listed in the pop up to be gradually migrated to individual source pages if a users desires.
- Tags on the couple events could be derived from the individual source list for either of the couple.
- Tags on couple events displayed in the initial pop up instead of only when editing the event.
Then the couple relationship pop up could look like this:
(Please just play like two different events are entered above, not a duplicate of the same one)
This would allow as many events as needed such as betrothal, banns, marriage, divorce, marriage, etc., to each be sourced individually through the tagging process.
A final thought: if plans are to continue to show only one marriage event on the Detail page, could we have a "Set Preferred" function added to the Couple Events section to designate which event would display on the Detail page? My personal preference would still be to have all the events on the Detail page.

My only suggested modification is that existing sources on a relationship should simply be compared to the component profiles' lists, and added to them if they're not already there. (Yes, this may result in some duplication of sources, such as both the husband's and wife's citations on the wife's profile, but I can very easily live with that.)

I'd rather leave that migration up to individual users. Bulk automated updates in Family Tree always seem to cause a bit of an uproar when they don't work quite right on some profiles.
But if it could be done automatically and correctly and that couple event source section just vanish one night, that would be great as long as there was some type of notice so there would be a minimum of panic and rioting.

Great ideas.
